Please reach us at admin@d4youclinic.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We understand that you may feel a little nervous about your taxi medical examination, but our doctors are here to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.
Here are a few helpful tips to make sure your appointment goes well:
Please bring your glasses and your most recent prescription if you wear them.
Please bring a list of any regular medications you take, including the doses.
Please bring your full medical records.
Please bring a form of photo ID.
Try to arrive a little early so you have time to settle in. Have some water, take a few deep breaths, and give yourself a moment to relax before your appointment.
If you take blood pressure medication, please make sure you take it as prescribed before attending.
During your taxi medical, assessing your fitness to drive may not always be straightforward, especially if you have a medical condition that may not meet Group 2 driving standards or requires further checks.
For example, if you have a history of heart problems, you may need additional investigations such as an ECG or echocardiogram before a decision can be made. Any additional tests or specialist reports are not included in the appointment fee and would need to be arranged separately.
At D4YOU, we’ll guide you through the process clearly and do our best to make your taxi medical as simple and stress-free as possible.
To help make the process as smooth as possible, we strongly recommend checking with your local authority before booking your taxi medical.
Your local authority decides who can complete your taxi medical, not the DVLA.
Most local authorities allow any GMC-registered doctor to complete a taxi medical, as long as they have access to either your full medical records or a medical summary. However, some local authorities insist that the medical must be completed by your own GP or a doctor at your registered GP surgery.
Please contact your local authority before booking to confirm their exact requirements.
Some local authorities also require the doctor completing the medical to review your full medical records. You may need to request these from your GP surgery in advance.
If your local authority confirms that any doctor with access to your medical records can complete your taxi medical, and it does not have to be your own GP, we’ll be happy to complete this for you at any of our clinic locations.
Submit a data request via your GP econsult system for the following:
I am undergoing a taxi medical with a private medical company.
To complete this, I am requesting my full medical record under Section 45 of the Data Protection Act 2018.
I would like the full medical record which shows all my previous consultations as well as any referrals, discharge letters and all correspondence and medical records available.
It must be the full medical record, it cannot be a medical summary and it cannot just show the last three most recent consultations. I would appreciate it if you could kindly email it to me in PDF form.
A taxi medical is completed using your local authority's medical form, which you will kindly need to bring to your appointment. Our friendly doctors will:
The medical will take approximately 15-30 minutes.
To obtain the correct form for a taxi medical, visit your local authority council's website and search for "applying for taxi license", "taxi medical" or "becoming a taxi driver."
There, you'll find comprehensive information about the entire process, including details on who can conduct your medical (whether it must be your registered GP or not) and the specific form that needs to be filled out.
Remember to bring a copy of the required form to your appointment for completion. Your council's website is your key to all the vital information you need.
Send your completed forms directly to your council. Visit their website for submission instructions.
Taxi medical requirements vary depending on your local authority.
To check how often you need to complete a taxi medical, please visit your local authority’s website or contact them directly. They will be able to confirm the exact rules for your licence.

Please make sure you bring the following essentials to your taxi medical appointment:
Your glasses and most recent prescription, if you wear them.
A list of your regular medications, including doses.
Photo ID, such as your passport or driving licence.
Your full medical records or summary medical records from your GP, depending on what your local authority requires.
The taxi medical form used by your local authority. This must be printed and brought with you to the appointment. Without this form, we may not be able to complete your medical.
Some local authorities may ask for additional documents, such as bank statements or proof of address. Please check with your local authority before your appointment so you know exactly what to bring.
To ensure a smooth process, we strongly advise checking who can complete your medical with your Local Authority first. They hold the power to decide who can conduct your medical, not the DVLA.
Most Local Authorities allow any GP to perform Taxi Medicals, but some insist on the driver's own General Practitioner. Contact your local authority for specific information before booking your appointment with us.
Furthermore, certain Local Authorities require the examiner to access your complete medical records. You may need to request this from your GP surgery ahead of time. Failure to bring the required records to your appointment will result in its cancellation.
